Darwen residents kick off at car park's 'unsightly and pointless' fencing

A proposal to replace temporary fencing around a Darwen car park has revealed the unhappiness of local residents about the existing ‘unsightly’ and unnecessary railings.

As a result the application will be debated at the borough’s planning committee on Thursday night. An officer’s report reveals the objectors have said that the existing fencing ‘looks unsightly’ and ‘there is no functional purpose for the fencing’.But Mr Hancock says it is needed to deter anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping. The report says: “This application is presented to the committee given that a large number of objections have been received.

“Temporary metal ‘heras’ style fencing is currently in place, which would be replaced by green two metre high weld-mesh fencing. Supplementary landscaping would also be provided along Watery Lane. The application site is a private car park. The site covers an area of circa 680 square meters.
