People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett said Ireland should not "bend the knee" to "bully" US President Donald Trump this St Patrick’s Day.
Mr Trump has suggested he will implement several policy changes that could negatively impact Ireland’s economy. Mr Boyd-Barrett said Ireland and Irish ministers "lovebombing" President Trump is unlikely to win us any favour.Mr Boyd Barrett added: "I don’t think lovebombing Trump is going to make any difference.
"I don’t think the Irish Government should be bending the knee to him. Given the sort of things Trump is threatening and some of the policies he is pursuing, I don’t see why you would be handing him bowls of shamrock or co-celebrating Ireland’s national day with a President who seems to be just making threats against everybody.
