Former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane is reportedly close to becoming the new manager of Hungarian club Ferencváros.
Hungarian media is reporting that former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane is in advanced talks to replace Pascal Jansen as head coach of Ferencváros . Keane's representative declined to comment, but Ferencváros president Gábor Kubatov posted on Instagram that an announcement is coming soon. The Hungarian league is currently on a winter break, with Leandro acting as Ferencváros caretaker manager since Jansen's departure on December 31st.
If appointed, Keane would take over a squad in good form, as Ferencváros are second in the league, just a point behind Puskas Akademia. They are also competitive in Europe, sitting in a playoff spot ahead of Europa League group games against Eintracht Frankfurt and AZ Alkmaar later this month. Keane was most recently manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won the Israeli Premier League title, the league cup, and reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. He left Maccabi last year despite being offered a contract extension
