Martin 'Fozzy' Fallon, a well-respected former Roscommon GAA footballer and Advanced Paramedic, tragically passed away at a young age. Tributes from the GAA community, fellow paramedics, and loved ones have poured in, remembering his talent, kindness, and dedication to both his sport and his profession.
Martin 'Fozzy' Fallon, a former Roscommon GAA footballer and Advanced Paramedic , passed away suddenly on Friday morning (January 17) while on duty. He was in his mid-50s and worked at Boyle Ambulance Station. Fallon, from Carniska in Strokestown, was a talented midfielder who represented Roscommon at all grades, including Minor and U-21, and made 13 appearances for the Roscommon Senior team, winning a Connacht Senior medal in 1991.
He played a key role in helping his club Strokestown GAA capture their first senior championship title since 1933 in 1992 and was part of the squad that claimed another senior title ten years later in 2002. Tributes have poured in for the former GAA star, with Roscommon GAA Chairperson Brian Carroll expressing his sympathy to Mr Fallon's family, stating that Fallon was not just remarkable on the pitch, he was a mighty character off it. He was great company, a pleasure to be around, a gentleman, and a true friend to all. Strokestown GAA also paid an emotional tribute to their former star midfielder, suspending all activities this past weekend as a mark of respect. They described Fallon as a true legend of the Black and Amber, and he will be sorely missed by everyone in the club and the wider Strokestown community.Robert Morton, Director for the National Ambulance Service at the HSE, paid tribute to the 'strong and committed family man'. He said Martin was a much loved member of Boyle Ambulance Station and those colleagues closest to Martin have described him as a conscientious and unassuming person who together with his crew mates, got on with the job of responding to patients. A minute's silence will be observed next Sunday (January 26) at King & Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park before the Roscommon vs Down game in memory of Mr Fallon
