The national broadcaster’s Director General Kevin Bakhurst has described the negotiations as being at a 'delicate stage'
RTE and Ryan Tubridy are to re-enter discussions this week aimed at returning the presenter to his weekday radio programme.
The national broadcaster’s Director General Kevin Bakhurst has described the negotiations as being at a "delicate stage". However, he also confirmed the star had not yet returned €150,000 in payments made to him by RTE after a sponsorship deal with Renault was terminated. That disclosure caused a public outcry when the RTE payments scandal erupted this summer.
Mr Bakhurst said there have been no discussions about the termination of Tubridy’s contract. Mr Bakhurst told the Sunday Independent: "There is an urgency now to resolving this matter and I hope we can do so in the coming week or so." Tubridy, 50, has been off the air since June following revelations that figures previously published by RTE relating to his earnings were inaccurate. Mr Bakhurst added: "As I’ve said previously, Ryan is a hugely talented broadcaster, and as with anyone with such talent there’s always a range of possibilities. It also emerged around 200 voluntary exit packages offered to executives and staff are being examined in a probe.
