Salman Rushdie ‘suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck’ according to police
The Booker Prize winner, whose books include Midnight’s Children, was attacked on the morning of Friday 12 August just before he was scheduled to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in New York.
“Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. His condition is not yet known. The interviewer suffered a minor head injury.” After selling over one million copies in the UK alone, the novel won the Booker Prize that same year and was later adapted into a 2012 film of the same name.
The book was banned in some countries, including Iran and Pakistan, and many people across the world protested against its release.
