Weather experts predict a powerful Atlantic storm will hit Ireland on Friday, January 24, 2025, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. Some forecasts even suggest the possibility of snowfall, particularly in southern regions. The storm is expected to last through the weekend, bringing unsettled weather conditions to most of Ireland.
The exact day a savage Atlantic storm is expected to impact Ireland has been confirmed by weather experts with some suggesting it could even be accompanied by snowfall.
The wintry conditions will remain for most of the week but the weather will take a dramatic turn on Friday and last well into the weekend with Met Eireann describing conditions "as very unsettled with strong winds developing and the potential for heavy rainfall". "Any snowfall will depend on the track of the low with a more southerly track more favourable for snow from this system. Any track further north then the risk of snowfall will be gone and we will only see strong winds and heavy rainfall," he added.
Worryingly, when predicting the peak wind gusts across Ireland during the storm the new weather maps show sections of black along much of the west of the country - black signifies wind gusts in excess of 118kmph. Tuesday: Mist and fog will be slow to clear on Tuesday morning. It will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent in the south and east. Highest temperatures of 5°C to 9°C in a light southwest or variable breeze.
