Long-range weather models indicate the possibility of strong winds and heavy rain impacting Ireland from Sunday into Monday. A major low-pressure system is forecast to make landfall on the southwest coast early Sunday, potentially bringing fierce winds and heavy rainfall.
There are fears that Ireland could be hit by severe stormy weather within days, as long-range maps indicate that strong winds and torrential rain could be on the way. While subject to change this far out, current models suggest that the wild weather could impact the country from Sunday into Monday.
Weather Alerts Ireland commented on the latest forecasts, saying: "The latest 18Z GFS evening model is following the European evening Model guidance and sending the storm over Ireland on Sunday into Monday! Still a long way off and it could all change so I will keep you all up to date!"READ MORE: River Island coat loved by celebrities hailed as 'ultimate autumnal piece'
Meanwhile, Met Eirean has weighed in and given its verdict, which, at this stage, appears to back up the models. It's latest forecast states: "Possibly turning wet and windy for Sunday and early Monday with mixed conditions following." "Mostly cloudy Wednesday, with outbreaks of rain moving into much of Munster and south Leinster through the morning and continuing into the afternoon, with some heavy falls and the likelihood of localised flooding. The rain will extend further northeastwards over eastern parts of Leinster too later in the day. Drier further to the north and for much of the west, with some sunny spells and well scattered showers.
