They’re not known for being the most energetic of creatures but two tortoises have been blamed for starting a house fire. Yes, really.reports that Henry the tortoise only had one thing on his mind when he woke up from a lengthy spell of hibernation: he wanted to have a bit of naughty fun with his mate, Alice.
The tortoises definitely managed to heat things up, although probably not in the way that either of them were hoping for. As they moved around their nest, poor Henry accidentally knocked over an electric heater which set fire to some wood shavings that were in the tortoises’ love nest.Henry and Alice’s owners, pensioners Alf and Gayner Clayton, had to run out of their house to escape the flames.
While the Claytons escaped with their lives, sadly both Henry and Alice perished in the fire .“He alays was a bit of a one and had chased her around and must have knocked the heater over,” he added. It’s a sad story but if it’s any consolation, at least Henry and Alice died doing something that they both enjoyed.
