Skin minimalism - or skinimalism - is a philosophy that encourages people to appreciate their unique skin genetics, skin flaws, and embrace healthy skin rather than “perfect” skin - whatever that means anyway! Clean skin goes beyond washing your face, and a minimalist approach can prevent some of the common problems associated with “too much” skincare.
Our skin barrier and microbiome protect us from environmental threats - also called stressors - which can include UV light, pollutants, allergens, irritants, and microbes.The problem with more and more potent actives in more and more skincare products is that these ingredients act as skin barrier stressors too. Product overuse may cause dryness, redness, breakouts, blotches and even dermatitis.
Your skin will let you know it’s suffering as it will feel tight or itchy, which indicates a disturbed skin barrier.
