PC Robert Whitehead has been sacked for gross misconduct
A police officer who abused his position of trust to pursue a missing woman for a sexual purpose has been sacked.
PC Whitehead was dismissed without notice at an accelerated misconduct hearing held yesterday after his behaviour was found to amount to gross misconduct. The decision was announced by the Independent Office for Police Conduct which had carried out its own investigation into Whitehead. The evidence showed PC Whitehead met the woman after she was reported missing from home and taking part in the police effort to locate her, according to the IOPC.
PC Whitehead made a number of comments about the woman’s appearance and at one point he asked where she was 'seemingly for the purpose of arranging to meet her', said the watchdog, although there was no evidence they actually met up.The IOPC said it informed GMP of 'incontrovertible evidence' of the police officer's behaviour at the conclusion of their investigation in May 2023.
