Snow might not be on the immediate horizon, but it could show up as the calendar rolls over into the new year . New forecasts suggest that parts of Ireland could see snowfall on New Year 's Eve and New Year 's Day - big difference when compared to the mild conditions we are currently seeing. WXCharts.com released new maps on Christmas Eve indicating that while a white Christmas is definitely off the cards, snow could be present in a number of areas across the country on New Year 's Eve.

While Met Eireann's forecast doesn't extend beyond Saturday the 28th of December at the moment, the current trend in predications seems to be leaning towards a cooler and colder phase of weather. Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather posted on social media to say that if there is much colder weather, it may be short lived. 'While weather models do show an increasing trend of cooler air for start of January the details are far from clear and a cool spell could be short lived blast or possibly start of a few rounds of cold spells. NAO and AO both possibly going negative increases chances of cold.' Meanwhile, Met Eireann's latest forecast for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are predicting milder conditions than usual for this time of the year. It is due to be a largely dry and cloudy day for Christmas Eve with just a little patchy light rain and drizzle. Some mist and hill and coastal fog will linger this morning too.
