Social welfare recipients are notified of an early payment date for March due to the St. Patrick's Day bank holiday. The Department of Social Protection also warns against fraudulent phone calls and text messages impersonating officials.
Social welfare recipients are being advised of an upcoming change to the payment schedule due to the St. Patrick's Day bank holiday . Next month, the 17th of March falls on a Monday, making it a bank holiday . This means that banks and post offices will be closed on that day, potentially affecting social welfare payments usually due on the 17th. It is anticipated that these payments will be issued early, arriving in recipients' accounts on either Friday the 14th or Saturday the 15th of March.
The change in payment date is due to the bank holiday falling mid-month. Recipients of Child Benefit will not be affected, as payments for this benefit are made on the first Tuesday of each month. In this case, Child Benefit will be paid on Tuesday the 4th of March. The Department of Social Protection (DSP) is also reminding the public to be vigilant against fraudulent texts and calls. In a statement on their website, the DSP warned about scams where individuals posing as department officials contact recipients about discounted electricity bills. The DSP stresses that they never request personal information such as PPS numbers, bank account details, or other sensitive data through phone calls or text messages. Recipients are advised to disregard any such requests, not engage with the callers, and report any suspected scams to the Gardaí immediately.
