Social welfare recipients in Ireland are being warned of an early payment schedule due to the upcoming St. Brigid's Day bank holiday.

Social welfare recipients should be aware as there is a shake up to the payment schedule on the way. February 3rd marks the first bank holiday of the year for St Brigid's Day. Because of this, banks and post offices will be closed on that day. This means that anyone expecting a social welfare payment on the 3rd will most likely be paid early. It is expected that you will see your payment land in your account on Friday the 31st of January or Saturday the 1st of February.

Because of the bank holiday, anyone in receipt of Child Benefit will most likely also be paid early, on the Friday or Saturday also. This is to ensure that no one receives a late payment as a result of the banks being closed. The rest of the bank holidays in 2024 are as follows: The St Brigid's Day bank holiday was only introduced in 2023, so it's easy for people to forget about it and how it may affect payment arrangements - don't be caught out. The schedule change comes as thousands of parents are only days away from the first payment of the brand new Newborn Baby Grant. The grant, worth €280, was introduced as part of Budget 2025 and will be paid for the first time on the 7th of January. It is then paid out to those who are eligible on Child Benefit payment dates, which are the first Tuesday of every month. The grant consists of a €280 boost, along with the usual €140 rate of Child Benefit, adding up to a handy lump sum of €420 when parents collect their child's first Child Benefit Payment. The grant is automatically paid in respect of any newborn baby who has been registered to receive Child Benefit
