Met Eireann has extended the Status Orange weather warning for 15 counties in Ireland due to extremely cold temperatures, widespread frost, and ice. The warning is in effect from Thursday evening until Friday morning and is expected to cause hazardous travelling conditions.

Met Eireann have extended their Status Orange weather warning for 15 counties across Ireland . They shared a weather map showing which areas will be hit with temperatures as low as -7 degrees. The national forecaster explained that it will be extremely cold, with travel disruptions expected, both for motorists and those on foot.

There is a Status Orange low temperature and ice warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon and Tipperary. It states: “Extremely cold with widespread severe frost and ice, along with lying snow in some areas. Patches of freezing fog also. “Impacts: Dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, travel disruption and delays, animal welfare issues and poor visibility”. It is valid from 9PM on Thursday, 9 January, until 8AM on Friday, 10 January. There is also a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning for the whole of Ireland. It reads: “Very cold with widespread frost, ice and lying snow. Some patches of freezing fog also. “Potential Impacts: Hazardous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, travel disruption and poor visibility.” It is in place from 5PM on Sunday, 5 January, and was extended until 12PM on Friday, 10 January.
