ESB Networks warns outages could last a week after strongest storm to hit Ireland since 2020

ESB Networks warned that the “severity and significant scale of the damage” done by Storm Darragh may see some customers without power for approximately a week. “The assessment of the extent of damage is continuing,” the company said.Leo Varadkar says many in politics do not understand numbers or percentagesbut thousands of homes remain without power following Storm Darragh.

From 3pm on Friday to 6am on Sunday, 1,336 incidents were reported on Northern Ireland’s roads – 1,000 of which were caused by fallen trees and branches. A bus also crashed close to Belfast International Airport and a loyalist mural in north At the storm’s peak on Friday night, winds of 111km/h were recorded at Mace Head, Co Galway with gusts reaching 141km/h. These were the strongest winds recorded in Ireland since Storm Ellen in August 2020.
