The country is set to be battered with high winds and heavy rain over the next 48 hours as the fourth named storm of the season makes landfall on the west coast

The fourth named storm of the season is set to batter Ireland with high winds and heavy rain over the next 48 hours, with weather warnings coming into effect this afternoon.

Falling branches, localised debris and difficult travelling conditions are expected.

The wind warning will be upgraded to orange from 10pm on Friday night for Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal, and this will remain in place until 9am on Saturday morning. A Status Yellow wind warning will remain in place for the whole country between 3pm Friday and 3pm Saturday, with Met Éireann warning of fallen trees, loose debris, difficult travelling conditions, and some wave overtopping in coastal areas.
