Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden discusses the mental challenges of living with cancer and how she helps other women reclaim their bodies through dance.
Strictly's Amy Dowden has opened up about the "mental difficulties" of living with cancer. She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023, but is now free of the disease. The 33 year old Strictly Come Dancing star is helping other women who have been diagnosed with cancer reclaim their bodies through dance, and on Tuesday's The One Show, Amy took mum-of-two Keren to a dancing session.
The session entitled Move, Dance, Feel, run by founder Emily Jenkins, aims to help women undergoing cancer treatment reconnect with their bodies through dance. Emily said: "It's really recommended by oncologists and cancer support teams to be physically active at all stages through pre-rehabilitation through to post treatment. But also to support mental health." Amy admitted that she "found the mental, more than the physical," whilst Emily added: "An hour or two hours away from the worry or the fear and the anxiety and just to connect to this sense of aliveness is just a gift.
