Exclusive: Tom Chambers, who won the sixth series of the BBC1 dance show in 2008, said fans can 'smell' when people are being too competitive

Strictly Come Dancing champion Tom Chambers has offered winning words of advice to Irish contestant Angela Scanlon as he opened up about how the show changed his life forever.

Fifteen years since he lifted the coveted glitterball trophy, the Casualty star said he is still a huge fan of the show and told how he now enjoys watching it, without the nerves, from the comfort of his home. He said that he’ll forever be grateful for how the show changed his life and kick-started his career, after years of rejections and struggling to make any money for his craft.

“And then Top Hat, so that was scary taking on the Fred Astaire role, but no way would I have got anything like that. You were kicked out before lunchtime in auditions."
