Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is due to meet Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and senior officials in the Health Service Executive tomorrow for a broad discussion on health matters, including winter pressures on the health service
Attending the meeting on behalf of the HSE will be Acting CEO Stephen Mulvany, Chief Clinical officer Dr Colm Henry and Chief Operations Officer Damien McCallion.
Eamon Ryan said that the advice of the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Breda Smyth, in relation to the wearing of face coverings on public transport will have to be considered by Government. As well as public transport, Dr Henry urged people to wear masks in"any setting where there is any degree of congestion and where they are in the company of an older person".
Meanwhile, Dr Ray Walley, a GP in Dublin has said they are keeping a close eye on what is happening in the UK with regard to Strep A as he highlighted how important the flu vaccine is to reduce people's chances of getting it.He also warned that the flu season will continue for another eight to 12 weeks.
