John 'Shark' Hanlon , facing a six-month suspension, revealed that Tara Lee Cogan will take over the management of his County Carlow yard starting December 1. Cogan, a friend of Hanlon, will be taking over the training of horses such as Hewick , who could still run in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
Hanlon's suspension, potentially reduced to three months, was decided by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board following an incident of removing a dead horse from his yard. Hewick, who recently performed well in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase and was withdrawn from the Betfair Chase due to wet conditions, might still have a chance to defend his title. Hanlon, after selling some horses at a dispersal sale, plans to continue operating the yard with Cogan's assistance, maintaining his staff
