Renuka Morris left her 23-year teaching career to set up the latest unique restaurant to open in Lancashire

A combination of covid lockdowns and the subsequent cost of living crisis has had a profound affect on the hospitality industry, with many businesses unable to afford to carry on. But it had the opposite effect on Renuka Morris, a further education teacher with 23 years experience

With the support of her husband Colin, she transformed a former retail unit into her seven-table "Asian hybrid" restaurant. The menu reflects Renuka's first 25 years living in her hometown of in Calcutta in India and the second half of her life so far in England, blending traditional East Asian cooking with continental and western methods.

"There is no compromise son the essence of spices and quality of ingredients. My samosas are a Punjabi recipe for the fillings but I do them in a puff pastry, cut them into swirls and cook them, rather than deep-frying, which is healthier.Although she "misses teaching terribly" Renuka hopes to subtly blend her two very different careers by striving to hire students who could benefit from work experience or career guidance.
