There are 'encouraging signs' for the forthcoming long weekend with 'high-pressure dominance' expected over Ireland

Temperatures are set to plunge below freezing over the next few nights, resulting in mist and fog in many areas, but there are “encouraging signs” that fine weather will return for the forthcoming bank holiday.

Alan O’Reilly, the man behind the Carlow Weather account on X , also said he “remains positive” about the outlook for the bank holiday. In the meantime, there are some cold nights in store this weekend with temperatures dropping to as low as -1C with mist, fog, and a risk of frost in many places.Rain will linger in the south at first this morning with cloudy conditions there. Brighter elsewhere before cloud builds and showers move into the north through the morning. Some sunny spells for the afternoon and evening with well scattered showers, some heavy. The best of the sunshine will be in the east later on.
