Jensen Ackles wanted to play Joel in The Last Of Us series.
Jensen Ackles, best known for his work on Supernatural and The Boys, reveals that he pushed hard to play Joel in the upcoming television adaptation of The Last of Us. Based on the critically acclaimed 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us takes place in the zombie apocalypse. The story follows Joel, a man tasked with escorting a teenage girl named Ellie across the country when it's discovered that Ellie is immune to the zombie virus.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY At a recent Supernatural convention , Ackles admits that he wanted to play Joel in HBO's The Last of Us. Ackles says that it was a role he pushed hard for, and that it was something he really wanted to do. However, he admits that he wasn't in serious consideration for the series. Ackles also teases that he's currently working on a video game project, though he can't reveal the details just yet.
"I was really kind of pushing hard, but I don't think I was really in the mix or really had a shot at it, but-- for Pedro Pascal's role in The Last of Us. I really, I was like-- that was high up on my radar. That being said, I am about to head up to LA to shoot a whole day for a new game that's coming out as a character... I can't say what it is just yet, but you'll find out soon enough.
Though Ackles ultimately didn't get the role, many actors were in consideration for The Last of Us, and longtime fans of the video game had many actors in mind to play Joel. Actors that fans wanted for the role included Ackles' Supernatural castmates Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Misha Collins, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, and Travis Fimmel.

Pascal's role as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian has been highly praised, particularly due to the emotional complexity between Din and young Grogu. Like Joel, Din balances duty and emotion, and Pascal has already proved that he's perfect for this kind of role.
