Gardai have “dismantled” a major drugs trafficking route and seized over €16m worth of drugs
amid a major international operation that cracked an encrypted network used by mobs around the world.
Speaking at a major Europol press conference today, Garda Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly said officers here have “dismantled a primary drugs trafficking route” in this country and stated that Ireland was the second largest user of this encrypted platform. Meanwhile speaking to the media in Dublin, Detective Superintendent Seamus Boland revealed that the operation did target the “primary” organised crime group in this country. Gardai say the encrypted platform, referred to as ‘Ghost,’ was used to “facilitate a wide range of criminal activities, including large scale drug trafficking, money laundering, instances of extreme violence and other forms of serious and organised crime.
Today gardai have announced that its officers from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau has been coordinating investigations related to the Ghost ECC platform “with regard to four identified OCG’s and support networks based and operating in the Dublin and Eastern Region, involved in drug trafficking and money laundering on a significant scale and activities facilitating and enhancing the capabilities of OCG’s.
During the operation here gardai seized €300,000 in cash, two crypto currency keys, 42 suspected Ghost ECC encrypted device, 126 other mobile devices, 27 laptops, 200 plus SIM card, six Rolex Watches and a 2021 Range Rover Jeep.
