How one punch took the life of a gentle, horse-mad, young man
Smiling, horse-mad Jake Rainton was pictured in his element at the Yorkshire Show. But just hours later his life would be ended by a single punch.
“My agony is unbearable and I only hope Jake’s legacy can be to educate others – please stop and think before you throw a punch.” “He didn’t go out much, he wasn’t a big drinker or a party animal. He was happiest when he was with his horses. He had just bred a young horse, Bambi, to train himself.” Dawn spent the next 24 hours with her son, alongside his father, his stepfather, David, 54, and sister, Bethany, 25. Dawn said: “The worst part of all was having to walk away, as his life-support was switched off, and leave him there. I was allowed to see him later, after procedures on his body, and his chest was open. No mother should have to see her son like that. It destroyed me and I will never forget it.
The court heard Jake and his friend crossed the street. Ms Michelle Colbourne KC for the prosecution, said: "Neither one touched one another or used any violence or on audio of what we can perceive, threatened any violence to one another."
