Education Minister Norma Foley has approved the inclusion of The Troubles, the 30-year conflict in Northern Ireland, in the Leaving Cert history curriculum starting in 2027. The Department of Education will initiate a consultation process in February to gather public input on the specific content to be included.

Education Minister Norma Foley has approved a proposal to put it on the curriculum for the 2027 school year.

The British Army was sent into the North to keep the peace on August 14, 1969 and stop the violence but ended up waging a war against the nationalist population instead.
