16,000 lone parents will see an increase in their payment or qualify for the first time from this week thanks to the change, which is aimed at tackling child poverty
Thousands of people will see an increase in their social welfare payment or be able to qualify for one thanks to a major change that came into effect this week.
The Social Welfare and Civil Law Act 2024 provides for significant reforms for lone parents, in particular the exclusion of child maintenance payments from social welfare means tests for the first time. Commenting this week, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys said: “This legislation represents a landmark reform of the child maintenance system in Ireland.
