Ireland’s health officials have reported another rise in confirmed cases of the new Covid Pirola variant. It comes as some people currently infected with Covid are getting similar symptoms.
Ireland’s health officials have reported another rise in confirmed cases of the new Pirola Covid variant.
The HSPC said: “A new variant with an unusually high number of mutations, BA.2.86, was detected in Israel first on August 13, 2023. It was designated as a variant under monitoring by the WHO on August 17 and by the ECDC on August 24. There does not appear to be any evidence to date of increased transmissibility or impact on clinical severity.
The HSE still lists a high temperature or having chills, a dry cough and fatigue as the top three Covid symptoms to look out for. If you have any of these symptoms, the HSE advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 48 hours after your symptoms are mostly or fully gone.
