The 135lb king began to drop nasty ground and pound that forced veteran referee Mark Goddard to step in and wave off the bout which was becoming hard to watch. During his post-fight interview, Dillashaw revealed that he injured his shoulder in April and had constant problems with it throughout his UFC 280 fight camp.“It probably dislocated a good 20 times during training camp. I told the ref in the back my shoulder would most likely pop out.
“Hats off to Aljamain for doing what he does. I apologize to the weight class. I took up a position but I wasn’t going to wait another year for a shot.”

UFC 280 results: How Makhachev submitted OliveiraUFC 280 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi will feature one of the deepest cards of 2022, headlined by a lightweight title fight between two of the sport’s biggest rising stars in Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. Oliveira, the former division champion, was stripped of his title in May after failing to make weight before a bout with Justin Gaethje. The Brazilian would go on to a first-round submission win and place himself back in position to reclaim his belt. Makhachev, a close friend and training partner of legendary fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, has followed his teammate’s dominant ways by winning his last 10 bouts in dominant fashion. In the co-main event, Aljamain Sterling will look to retain his bantamweight belt against former titleholder T.J. Dillashaw. Sterling is coming off arguably his best performance of his career, a split decision win over Petr Yan back in April. Dillashaw, banned for two years from the sport after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, earned another crack at the title by edging Cory Sandhagen on the scorecards in July. Other intriguing bouts include Yan vs. Sean O’Malley, Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot, Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot and Belal Muhammad vs. Sean Brady.Stay with The Athletic all day long as this monster card progresses.
