The ninth named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Isaac, developed quickly in the Atlantic Ocean early on Thursday and is currently heading east towards Ireland and Portugal. While the storm will track more towards Portugal, some of its energy could bring heavy rain to southern Ireland on Sunday.
Tropical Storm Isaac could track close to Ireland this weekend, bringing heavy rain in parts of the country.
While the storm will track more towards Portugal, according to the ever-reliable Alan O'Reilly via Carlow Weather, some of the “energy from Isaac will be picked up by the jet stream” and could bring the storm close to the south of Ireland on Sunday.READ MORE - Ireland weather: Two counties brace for double weather warning as brutal conditions forecast for Thursday
“The National Hurricane Centre in America has named the next tropical Storm Isaac, which sits out in the Atlantic,” O'Reilly explained in a video on his X account. “It is forecast to track east here as you can see, now, some of that energy from Isaac will be picked up by the jet stream and become the low-pressure storm system that could track close to the south of Ireland on Sunday.
“However, there is another very serious hurricane which is going to hit Florida, and that’s Helena, and unfortunately storm surge of up to 20 feet is possible, so if you have any family in Florida, make sure they are well aware.”
