Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he plans to change his country’s name to Türkiye. He said it is the ‘best representation of the Turkish people’s culture, civilisation and values’ 🇹🇷
Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu wrote to the UN to request it honours the name change, which it said it did ‘from the moment’ his letter was received He said it is the ‘best representation of the Turkish people’s culture, civilisation and values’.
Other international organisations are also expected to be asked to make the change as part of Erdogan’s proposed rebrand which began in December.titled ‘Hello Türkiye’ was released to ‘raise global awareness about using the country’s original name’.to have explained the transition in an article. Turkish state broadcaster has also moved towards using Türkiye, saying Google searches ‘conflate’ Turkey with the bird
