Morgan hit 0-3 for Tyrone against Mayo las Sunday, including two points from play.

Niall Morgan says that goalkeeping “would not be my role anymore” if the rules are tinkered with to prevent ‘keepers from joining the play.

Morgan got upfield to kick 0-3 in Tyrone’s loss to Mayo on Sunday but when asked if he would continue if the role was pared back to that degree, he replied: “No, it would not be my role anymore. I genuinely don't see where you would get any enjoyment out of playing that role. Morgan also takes exception to the ‘12 v 11’ term that has been coined for a goalkeeper joining the play in the opposition half.

“Actually in fact they'd be flipping that 12 v 11, in theory, because before the goalie even gets up , push the 'keeper out and stop them from crossing. “Against Cork last year in the Championship, I would have thought that I came out a lot but against Derry I did 3k more in the game and my high speed running was about four times what it was last year.

Given the impact it has on his personal stats, Morgan isn’t a fan of the new kickout but can appreciate the reasoning behind it.
