Ireland rugby fans may still be coming to terms with being dumped out of the Rugby World Cup by New Zealand but that didn't stop throngs of them from turning up at Dublin Airport to welcome the team home on Monday night.
Andy Farrell's men touched down on home soil shortly before 8pm on Monday and while the players are understandably disappointed with the quarter-final defeat, they still made time to pose for photographs and sign autographs. One Irish rugby fan said while he thought the homecoming "dispirited" he remained proud of how captain Johnny Sexton and the rest of the team gave their all for the revered green jersey."A very dispirited homecoming in Dublin Airport, gutted but proud of this Irish rugby team," said the fan.More than 1.3 million people tuned into Saturday’s thrilling Rugby World Cup clash.
According to figures by Virgin Media, Saturday night’s nail-biting Rugby World Cup quarter-final fixture between the two teams drew in an average audience of 1.378 million, peaking at 1.541 million in the final moments of the match with a record-breaking 78% share of viewing.Ranked number one in the world, Ireland were favourites going into the quarter-final however, despite their best efforts, it wasn't to be.
