The Government's decision to fund the improvements to Watford General Hospital has been welcomed by WatfordMayor . He reflects on the announcement in his latest monthly column
You will have seen in the news that the Government have announced they will be funding the improvements to Watford General Hospital and I am really pleased that we are finally getting what we need locally.
Work began when the previous Liberal Democrat Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, secured the building of Thomas Sawyer Way. This created a modern access road for the new site and led to a big fall in ambulance journey times. We have also given outline planning permission for the new buildings and freed up land to accommodate the new hospital by building a multi-storey car park.
I have many criticisms of the current government but they are right about one thing. They are funding the new upgrades the right way using normal government borrowing rules.
