After weeks of hearing about the new Gold Rush ride at Drayton Manor I was eager to head on down to the theme park and give it a try - but things quickly went wrong
After weeks of anticipation about the new Gold Rush ride at Drayton Manor, I was keen to visit the theme park and give it a whirl.
Our first ride was the Maelstrom, which was so fantastic that we returned for another go later in the day. The queue was short and the ride's capacity meant it was always a quick experience. We chose to wait it out and fortunately, after an additional 20 minutes or so, the ride was back in operation. The people in front of us re-boarded and were off.Despite our initial apprehension following the technical glitch, the rollercoaster proved to be incredible and we would have ridden it again if the queue hadn't ballooned to a 90-minute wait. We decided to go on Air Race next, as there was virtually no queue.
It was thrilling but felt like it was over in a minute. Moreover, the second half of the ride is just a reverse run of the first half, making it feel like half a ride. We attempted to go to Gold Rush again, but it remained closed, as did the Loki ride nearby. The cart was still stranded on the tracks, although the passengers had managed to disembark. This was quite a let-down as we were all eager to try the new ride. However, we shrugged it off and made our way back to Air Race.
We queued for 30 minutes and as we neared the front of the line, our excitement was palpable. The group ahead of us embarked on their ride, spinning up and down the track, but found themselves unable to disembark.
