Things are hotting up in the North Paris Arena with three Irish boxers in the ring - and Kellie Harrington will guarantee herself a medal if she wins
The Tokyo gold medallist swept aside ex-World champ Alessia Mesiano on Monday but faces what is on paper a difficult lightweight quarter-final today. If Harrington beats Angie Paola Valdes then she will be guaranteed at least a bronze medal but the Colombian is a dangerous prospect for the Dubliner, who looks to be back to top form in Paris.
Harrington is due in the ring at 5.54pm Irish time, the second of three Irish boxers competing at the North Paris Arena as two of her team-mates get into the action after Jenny Lehane was yesterday the fourth of the 10-strong team to bow out at their first hurdle, when she lost 5-0 to China's Yuan Chang.
Paalam, a flag bearer for his country at these Games, won silver at flyweight division, beating Ireland's Brendan Irvine en route. Whereas 22-year-old Games debutant Gallagher won the second Paris qualifying tournament in Milan, Paalam won the third and last in Bangkok.
