It could be a birthday celebration to remember at the Stade de France for a key member of the Ireland team
Sharlene Mawdsley will have a birthday to remember at the Stade de France tonight - and could even celebrate with a medal as the icing on the cake.
Depending on how Rhasidat Adeleke recovers from Friday night's individual 400m final, she will most likely come into the team. If that happens then it will make all the difference to Ireland's prospects of a medal. "We need to be all ready. If you put us back out there now I think we’d run faster because we’re all so happy. The support we have back at home and this stadium, like, how could we not come away as Olympic finalists?".
Making the final proved a point for Mawdsley and for Sophie Becker, who ran a very fast 50.90 first leg to put Ireland into the lead.
