The snow belt east of Cleveland likely will see its first major storm of the season beginning tonight, with more than 6 inches of snow possible, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter storm watch will take effect at 7 p.m., when rain showers are expected to change to snow. Forecasters say heavy lake-effect snow is possible in eastern Cuyahoga County, as well as Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties. Areas closer to the lake should see lighter amounts, but it’s still possible they could get heavier bands of snow.
This will bring out the usual troubles with traveling on area roads, especially during heavier squalls. The conditions are set up well for lake-effect snow. Temperatures will drop to the low 30s overnight and southwest winds will be around 11 to 14 mph. Lake Erie is open and the water is relatively warm at 53 degrees. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
