The Football Review Committee proposals will go before the GAA's Central Council this weekend to be rubberstamped for next month's Special Congress.
If the four point goal is in the Football Review Committee’s firing line then the two point scoring arc might well have to go as well. It is believed the four points for a goal is set to be scrapped as the FRC continue to fine-tune their rule changes. The value of a goal will remain at three points and a 45-metre kick is set to be worth one point, having been worth two points last weekend.
One fundamental of the game that can’t change is that it has to pay to go for goal. Otherwise we will lose one of the most exciting aspects of the game. No-one knows for certain, and the idea of making the game more entertaining is entirely subjective, but it would appear that a three point goal and a two point scoring arc would be against the modus opperandi of the FRC.
Most would agree that this is all good for the game and that the kickout rule was one of the success stories of the weekend.
