Longford skipper Paddy Fox is looking forward to the upcoming match against Meath at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. Despite a previous heavy defeat, Fox is optimistic about their chances, especially with home advantage. The winner of this Leinster preliminary round tie will face Dublin in the quarter-final.

Although Longford suffered a 22-point defeat to Meath in their last Championship meeting in Navan in 2021, taking them on in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park is a different prospect for Fox, who played on the side that recorded a first win over the Royals in 36 years back in 2018.

“It’s probably as big a draw as you can get, bar the Dubs coming to Pearse Park, so look, it’s a massive game,” said Fox. “They’ll bring a good crowd; it’s giving for decent weather as well so hopefully a big crowd will be there in Pearse Park to see us play against Meath. “Meath are a good team. I know they’re young but the last couple of years in Division Two they’re playing at a high level so it’s going to be a big task but we’re really looking forward to it.Longford dropped to Division Four last year and though they made a poor start to this year’s League, losing their first two matches, they won the next four only to go down to fellow promotion hopefuls Wexford in their last game when a victory would have sent them up.“I think so.
