Quentin Griffiths, co-founder of the online fashion retailer Asos, has died after falling from a high-rise apartment in Thailand. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, while the Foreign Office provides support to the family.

Quentin Griffiths , the co-founder of online fashion giant Asos , has died after falling from a block of flats in Thailand . The 58-year-old, originally from London, fell to his death from his 17th-floor apartment in Pattaya on February 9.

Emergency services attended the scene after receiving reports of a body lying on the ground by the apartment block, and Mr Griffiths has since been identified as the man who died. An investigation is now underway following the tragic incident. Mr Griffiths helped to launch Asos 26 years ago, playing a key role in the company's early success before making £15m from share sales in 2010. Authorities are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding his death as the investigation into the fall from the high-rise building continues, reports The Mirror. It is understood that Mr Griffiths, was by himself at the time, his room was locked from the inside, and there was no trace of any break-ins. An autopsy did not reveal any evidence of foul play but forensic tests are continuing at the property. Mr Griffiths' exact cause of death will not be determined until a full post-mortem examination is completed and this is a process that could take several months. Mr Griffiths was arrested last year and quizzed by detectives after his Thai ex-wife claimed he had stolen £500,000 from the company they both ran. He was released under investigation and Mr Griffiths maintained his innocence. The couple had a son and daughter prior to their separation, the Sun reports. A source close to Mr Griffiths' family told the outlet: 'It’s a real mystery. The phrase ‘suspicious circumstances’ has been used but we just don’t know yet.' A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.” Asos was founded by Nick Robertson, Andrew Regan and Deborah Thorpe, as well as Mr Griffiths and ships to around 195 countries. Since its launch in 2000, Asos has expanded significantly, acquiring Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge from the defunct Philip Green's Arcadia Group. However, it initially began as a platform selling replicas of outfits worn by celebrities on TV, in films, and music videos. This concept gave birth to the company's name - ASOS, an acronym for AsSeenOnScreen, with the tagline 'Buy what you see on film and TV'
