A CCTV investigation has discovered a major rat infestation in the sewage system below the Department of An Taoiseach at Government Buildings , and rodents have been making their way into a kitchen in the premises.
“It appears he made his way into the kitchen via plumbing apparatus at the back wall,” a pest controller remarked in the report. The hole in the back wall was temporarily sealed with expanding foam and a number of rat traps were discreetly positioned “lest the intruder break through the seal” the following night.
The pest control company warned officials in the Department of An Taoiseach that “significant vulnerabilities” had been found in the sewage system that could facilitate rodents entering the building. This work had not been carried out by the beginning of March, according to records released by the Department of An Taoiseach under the Freedom of Information Act.
