Making it Work Aran Woollen Mills targets €20m revenue as family business marks 60 years
The business, celebrating 60 years in business this year, is primarily focused on sweaters but it also makes scarves and cardigans.“We manufacture Aran sweaters. The company name says it all, Aran Woollen Mills. We make them in numerous materials, from super soft to the old traditional style. The softer we made the material, the more people wanted the product,” Vincent Hughes, managing director of Aran Woollen Mills and son of the founders, told the Business Post.
“The second reason was so she could keep the crafts alive and the third was to give labour to married women in the home because, obviously, back then they weren’t allowed to work outside the home in those days.” “We’ve grown the business year in year out since then. The third generation is now getting involved, with several of them present at board level.”
“They do very good conferences that have helped us with design, overseas sales and operating online. We’ve worked with their staff in many of their offices abroad.”
