Officers stopped the motorist speeding along the N17 well above the speed limit, and under the influence of drugs

Gardaí have nabbed a driver speeding more than 60km/h over the speed limit while under the influence of drugs.

As well as driving well over the speed limit, the motorist was also found to be under the influence of both cocaine and cannabis. Gardaí quickly arrested the driver, with a court date set to follow. “They were stopped and the driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. They were arrested, court to follow.”

Starting this Friday , the default speed limit on rural local roads will drop from 80km/h to 60km/h - a 20km/h reduction designed to make roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike.
