Proposals include a new two-way cycleway
New safer crossings are set to be installed at a Northampton junction previously branded a "nightmare" by locals. The changes are part of new plans to improve walking and cycling routes in the Abington Park area.
on Abington Park Crescent with a new upgraded crossing at the junction with Park Avenue South alongside a new two-way cycleway towards the school on Bridgewater Drive. Park Avenue South will also get new cycleways that merge into existing cycling facilities. The Independent councillor was "amazed" when the motion to change the junction was passed by WNC's full council in 2021. "You don't usually get a motion that passes with the opposition," she said.
"At the moment, you could be crossing over and someone could come from the left or the right in a filter lane", Cllr Davenport explained. "There's also no pedestrian crossings so it'll make a huge difference and hopefully encourage children to walk to school."
