A significant increase in Child Benefit is expected to be announced in the upcoming Irish budget, potentially providing families with an extra €1,000 per year. The government is finalizing its cost-of-living package, which will include a rise in Child Benefit for the first time in 13 years. Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys is reportedly considering increases of €10 or €20 per month, leading to annual boosts of €120 or €240 respectively.
The budget is just over two weeks away, with the government beginning to nail down the measures they plan on rolling out.
Now, it has been revealed that the rise could be as much as €20 a month, leading to an annual boost of €1,040. It comes as the Minister has already confirmed that parents are likely to receive a double Child Benefit payment before Christmas as part of Budget 2025.“In terms of child benefit, we did have a double payment last year and I know that was very, very popular in the run up to Christmas because while inflation has dropped, it is still expensive," said Minister Humphreys.
