Carol Seery (66) suffered fatal injuries after being struck while crossing Phibsborough Road near Cross Guns Bridge at around 9pm on October 4, 2023

An inquest into the death of a woman killed after being struck by a car Dublin last year has been adjourned after the coroner was informed that criminal proceedings have been initiated in the case.

The couple were crossing the road to get a bus home when the fatal collision happened. At her funeral mass, mourners were told that Ms Seery had been socialising with her husband who had recently retired as a garda and they were planning a holiday to Lanzarote.READ MORE: Claudine Keane "prays for peace" and calls for hostages to be released

Mr Seery said he could not remember what time he had identified his wife’s body but it was after paramedics had left the scene. The coroner, Cróna Gallagher, said a postmortem had found that Ms Seery had died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries due to a road traffic collision. The DPP has directed that Mr McGuirk should face a trial before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court given the seriousness of the charges. Dr Gallagher granted the adjournment and said a date for the full inquest into Ms Seery’s death would not be fixed until the conclusion of related criminal proceedings.
