Notts County travel to Gillingham looking to bounce back from just their third league defeat of the season
Experience is the name of the game for Luke Williams as his side look to respond for just their third league defeat of the season last weekend as they travel to face Gillingham. It is fair to say that the Magpies ’ next opponents have endured somewhat of a strange season so far having started well results-wise under Neil Harris while not blowing the roof off with their football.
The Stags caught Williams’ eye with their performance at Meadow Lane and drew him to the conclusion that his side still have another step to take to be the team they truly want to be this season. He said: “I think overall, there wasn’t a huge amount between the teams last weekend, but in the end, the scoreline is too big for us to be comfortable with so we have to do better than that away at Gillingham because it’s certainly going to be a tough game.
“That’s a very well-equipped squad and I was very impressed with how they played against us and they were excellent at what they were tasked with doing by their manager.” Despite sitting second in the league table, Notts have conceded the joint-third most goals in the division, tied with fellow League Two newcomers Wrexham with 25 let in after just 13 games.
“There is a lot more added time in games this season as we know and we have to be able to concentrate and be able to defend effectively through the entire game, and that is proving to be a challenge that we have to face up to and get better at.” The Magpies’ 100% league record at home this term was snatched away from them by Mansfield and away from home it has been a slightly different story in terms of results with two wins, three draws and two defeats from the seven away trips so far.
