Emergency services are responding to a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on the N59 at Ballycroy, near Westport , Co Mayo , at approximately 10:00 am this morning, Thursday, February 6, 2025. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 40s, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The N59 road, connecting Mulranny to Bangor Erris, has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation. Local diversions are in place to manage traffic flow.
Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area between 9:30 am and 10:00 am to come forward and assist with their investigation. This incident follows two separate serious crashes that occurred last night. In Dublin, a man in his 40s sustained injuries in a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on North Strand at approximately 8:00 pm. Several hours later, at 11:40 pm, a man and a woman were hospitalized after being involved in a single-vehicle collision on the R734 at Poulfur, Fethard-on-Sea, Co Wexford.
